Our History
Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens was originally formed by Dr. Bob Ward and Dr. Bob Waugh as a service to the community to assist patients with oral sleep appliances for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
For over two decades, sleep physicians have referred OSA patients that are CPAP intolerant to Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens for evaluation and treatment.
Bob Waugh, DMD, MS is a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and a board-certified orthodontist (2002). He is a native Georgian and has practiced in Athens since 1989.
Bob Ward, DMD is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine and member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. Dr. Ward served as a dentist in the U.S. Navy before opening his dental practice in Athens. In 1998, he limited his practice to dental sleep medicine.
Dr. Phillip Durden
Dr. Waugh and Dr. Ward transferred ownership of Dental Sleep Medicine of Athens to Dr. Phillip Durden in 2020. Over the years, Dr. Waugh, Dr. Ward and Dr. Durden have enjoyed their professional relationships, shared interests and focus on OSA oral appliance therapy, making this transition a natural fit for our current and future patients.
